Since "Dawn of The Dead" came out in the 70s people have been fascinated with the walking dead and lately that has manifested itself into a whole host of Zombie games for a variety of video game systems.
There are three dominant types of these games, first person shooters, survival hour and beat 'em up. All of these different genres serve different niches in the video game world; however anyone that likes zombie games will enjoy all of them equally.
The first style is Survival horror, the main object is usually to go through some kind of story, or solve a mystery of sorts.
The story telling is usually very well done; they are also usually really intense. Often times this genre features more puzzle solving and critical thinking than actual action, which makes them a good option for a lot of people that want a more intelligent form of entertainment.
The next popular style is "The First Person Shooter".
In this genre you take on the perspective of the main character and you move and aim at whatever the main enemy of the story is. These games have been long popular ever since the game Wolfenstein 3D came out in the early 90s.
Since then this genre has exploded into and you can take on just about any kind of fictional or historical enemy imaginable, including zombies.
The final big genre is the Beat 'em up. In games like this the world is over-come with zombies and it is your job to take them all on.
While these are much less realistic they are usually more popular as they appeal to casual gamers and the skill curve is generally much lower.
Games like the Dead Rising are a great way to have some fun without having to do too much thinking, making them a great way to relax and blow off stress.
So no matter what kind of Zombie games appeal to you, there are plenty of options.
Even if you are just a fan of zombies in genre there is sure to be something out there that you would enjoy.
Just go out and try renting a few and see what you like.

Kids' Safety Pre-Requisites
Do you remember your child smiling back at you when you let his bike go for the first time on his own? Did you remember to put on his safety helmet? Although it is true that most kids find it boring to put on safety helmets and knee covers, there are ways which you can make your kids like them. You can make your kid wear a helmet cover to ensure maximum safety combined with absolute fun.
Helmet covers come in different attractive colors along with different cartoon themes that would appeal to your kid.
They are made of fabric that is comfortable for your child, thus he can enjoy wearing it. In any case, safety of the child should be your priority.
Children lack knowledge of safety regulations in our society. It is important that different schools and other organizations develop programs to educate children about the necessary safety measures while playing or in case of emergency situations.
There are different types of injuries that a child can face, while playing outside.
In such a case, the most important thing is supervision either by the school's staff or by the parent. A child can get injured mostly from falls.
However there are some other dangerous injuries such as cuts, scraps, bruises, burns, etc.
Children are completely oblivious to all such risks.
However, you can simply avoid such risks by remaining near your child when he plays and it is better to play along with him sometimes.
Your kid's play area should be checked for any uneven surfaces and heights reachable by your child to avoid injuries caused by tripping. Prevent the use of strings or ropes by your child as they pose a hazard in strangling him.
Any items that could be ingested should be kept away from the child because once consumed, they might cause choking or poisoning.
It is essential that you perform proper inspection of the play area and the equipment present around him.
You must keep your eyes open to see if they pose any potential danger.
There are other things which have the potential to harm a child.
Avoiding fights and bullies is one of them. This requires the training and character building of the child.
He should also be warned from contacting any stranger willing to talk to him or offer him something in the absence of parents or guardian. After attaining a certain age, the child should be given training and education for road safety rules in order to prevent any fatal accidents.
In addition, the company a teenager keeps needs to be monitored sharply so that he may not acquire any unwanted habits.
These may include the usage of drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and needles.
Plus, a child should be trained in case he gets lost or cannot reach home due to some reason. When a child finally learns personal safety skills, he builds his self-esteem and confidence in the process.
It also greatly adds to his character building as well as trains him to become a responsible citizen.

7 Tips for Raising Great People
Tip 1
Never treat children as inferiors.
I'm often amazed at the attitude of people.
Some people think that a child is only a half a person and cannot contribute anything until it has reached adulthood. I have learnt more about myself from my kids than any other person living on this earth.
Just think how you feel when your boss, spouse, partner or colleague gives you the impression that they are cleverer, more experienced and better than you.
Would you agree that it doesn't feel like a good place to be in? Tip 2 Don't kill personalities by saying things like Oh you'll never amount to anything with that attitude.
If your parents said it to you it may be possible that you're just repeating the same old stuff.
This is not true.
People can amount to anything they want to be.
The only thing holding them back is a set of false beliefs.
So refrain from programming them into believing they'll never amount to being anything.
A wholesome approach is to point out the things that are positive.
As a mother or father there should be at least 25 good qualities you can think of right now. If you really detest the attitude take a look at yours first and make sure that some of it hasn't spilled over into your offspring.
Can't see a part of you in that attitude that makes you want to climb the wall? Then speak to your child, say, "you know I noticed that lately you are always rolling your eyes when I talk to you.
Do I do that? Am I repeating myself? Is what I'm saying making no sense? Please tell me what bugs you about me, so I can understand.
I appreciate your opinion. Maybe my friends feel the same way and they just aren't brave enough to roll their eyes at me.
" They'll be telling you every thing pretty soon.
Tip 3 Encourage healthy entertainment.
Some parents often tell me that they're happy if their child is reading anything. That horrifies me.
I'd rather my child read nothing than anything.
Reading stimulates the imagination.
Our imagination is where we create our lives. Yes this may seem shocking but it's true. We create our lives by the pictures we create.
That goes for the movies they're watching as well. Movies that inspire and teach are wonderful.
Mindless sitcoms have no value.
Tip 4 School is a great place for acquiring friends and testing out social skills. Don't put pressure on your kids to score high in school. If they do it naturally that's okay.
The main thing is they should enjoy school even if they're not A students. Often later in life A students work for C students.
School notes do not mean people have the skill for making money and being great leaders and visionaries.
Obviously children should understand the alphabet and numbers other wise school is a night mare for them.
Help your kids, when they ask you something don't ignore them - take the time to explain it to them.
If you don't understand after you've looked at the assignment, tell your kid you don't understand and look for solutions together. Tip 5 Teach them about the power of their thoughts.
Encourage free thinking.
Teach them about the law of attraction ie what we focus on is what we get. This is a lesson that a lot of adults still have to master.
If you can't afford some thing right now that they have their heart set on, go in visualising mode with them.
Take out a note book and let each child express from the heart how they would really like their room to be, what holiday they'd like to go on etc. Let them talk - refrain from saying, "we can't afford that." Take notes for them. I and my girls have a whole lot of fun doing this. Tip 6 Last but not least teach them about love. Love them; love their friends - even the ones you don't like.
Never make racist or derogatory comments about any one.
Children always follow by example.
If your kids are hanging out with a crowd that don't look and act savoury, be better company yourself.
Tip 7 Be a great parent yourself. Remember the words of Kahil Gibran: Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself. They come through you but not from you, and though they are with you, and yet they belong not to you. You may give them your love, but not your thoughts. For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls, for their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward, not tarries with yesterday.

Smart TVs: Are They Smart?
I've been working in the tech industry for long enough to see some real clunker products along the way.
From PCs shaped like fish to messaging clients that relied on slow GSM networks, there have been some memorably dud products.
One that stands out in memory as a particularly odd product was LG's Internet Fridge, a $17,000 food cooling device that also included an internet-connected computer in the door.
It didn't sell well.
Technology-improved versions of gadgets haven't typically set the world on fire, largely because the costs have generally been high -- why would you spend seventeen thousand dollars on a low-rent PC tacked onto a fridge when you could spend a couple of thousand on a large fridge and the same on a laptop -- and feature sets haven't exactly enhanced the experience of using the device.
I may be a fan of social networking services such as Twitter and Facebook, but that doesn't mean I need to update my status while I'm grabbing some milk.
Oddly enough, LG's having another crack at the Internet Fridge concept again, with models announced at this year's CES trade show back in January, but that was a minor concept next to the next big thing to get a tech makeover, that being the concept of "Smart" TVs.
Most of the major TV vendors have a Smart TV platform now, offering up social networking, light internet browsing, some games and access to catch-up TV services from the ABC and Channel 7.
There's support for developers to make TV-specific applications, but as yet there's no central standard for those applications, which means the features and apps available on one manufacturer's TVs may not be available on the other.
The Smart TV concept probably has more legs than the Internet Connected Fridge, Wireless Toaster or MixMaster-With-Inbuilt Fax (not that those last two actually exist) simply because they've largely been priced at the same kinds of price points we're used to seeing TVs priced at, so you're not spending too much extra for those features.
More critically they're better because the features they offer make a certain amount of sense.
When I'm watching TV and want to check something, the option to quickly bring up a web page makes sense. With the addition of a camera, the opportunity to hook up a video Skype call with the entire family sitting on the couch makes sense.
If there's a brief pause for some advertising, I'd probably rather while the time away with a quick ad-hoc game than being told why I should buy this year's rustbucket.
You get the idea. It's early days for the Smart TV concept.
What do you think? Will your next TV purchase be a Smart TV, or will the concept go colder than the Internet Fridge?

Characteristics of Kids Making Money
I want to present to you the kids make money litmus test.
Actually it's not a test but it will help you identify the 5 characteristics your child should have if they want to become an entrepreneur.
Let's jump right in.
The first one is self-confidence.
It goes without saying that to be an entrepreneur you need to have confidence in your ability.
Of all the characteristics needed this is probably the most important one.
With any business, and kids are not excluded, there are ups and downs.
During these times your child's confidence that they can do it will help them tremendously.
As a parent it is important to reinforce their confidence, because as much as they are an entrepreneur, they're still your child.
The second quality is belief in the business venture. There is an old expression that goes something like this, if you think you can you're right and if you think you can't you're right.
Regardless of what type of business venture your child desires to pursue, they have to believe it will work before they can expect anyone else to.
Now belief should not be confused with arrogance.
Arrogance thinks that just because I thought of it, my idea will work.
Belief says I have thought this out, done some research and see there is a market for my product. That is usually a good foundation to start on.
The third quality is the ability to recognize opportunity. When it comes to helping kids make money the reality is there is opportunity everywhere you look.
When people decide to use a product or service often it's because it provides a comfort, meets a need or solves a problem.
I am sure if you and your child walked through your neighbourhood looking for those three conditions you may be surprised what opportunities you find. The fourth quality is your child has to be a decision maker.
Helping your child do this is very important because sometimes making a decision is not easy but is very necessary. The important thing as a parent is to let your child make the decision and let them deal with the results of the decision, good or bad.
Don't give in to the temptation to override your child's decisions. This can make them indecisive and cause them to miss out on some good business lessons.
The final quality is your child needs to be a leader.
Here's the good news, you don't have to try to make your child a leader. If your child develops or exhibits the first four characteristics, then the leadership aspect is actually a natural result, it should take care of itself.
So how does your child measure up in the kids make money litmus test? Hopefully, they are starting to exhibit these characteristics.
Whatever you do make sure to always encourage them to take their skills to the highest level.

How to Safety Proof Your Home For Your Child
According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents every year more than 1 million children age under 15 are taken to accident and emergency (A&E) after being injured in or around the home.
As well as this many more children are treated at home by their parents, home-carers or GP.
As stated in the NHS website, UK accidental injuries are the most common cause of death in children and those under five years of age are at most risk from an injury sustained in their own home. Faced with these sobering facts it is vitally important that we do everything we can to make sure our homes are as safe as possible in order to minimise the chance of an accident.
Following the simple steps below, you can help keep your home safe for your child: 1.
The Stairs To protect a child from falling down stairs use stair-gates that can be installed easily at the top of the flight of stairs and also at the bottom of the stairs.
Make sure that the handrails are secure.
Also, make your child aware of the possible dangers of stairs and remind them it is not a suitable place to play.
Make sure the areas around the stairs and steps are well-lit and free of objects like toys or boxes which will be potential hazards for tripping and causing injuries.
2.
Electrics: Use socket covers on all electrical sockets. Get to know where your fuse box is located and know how to use the circuit breaker so you can switch off the power in the event of an electrical related accident.
3.
The Kitchen: Make sure your child is supervised in the kitchen when hot food is being prepared.
Turn all cooking handles inwards and away from children and if possible use the back burners on the rear of the stove top.
Also, use a lock on the oven to prevent children from opening a hot oven.
Make sure that all dangerous substances e.
g. bleach, cleaning products, washing up liquid etc are locked securely away using cupboard locks.
4.
The Bathroom: The number one rule is never leave a child unattended in the bathroom, especially if they are in the bath.
Make sure that the bath water is a suitable temperature by using a thermometer. You might also want to consider using a bath cradle for your baby, although remember they must still remain supervised at all times. As in the kitchen, remember to keep toxic substances such as shampoo, hair bleach etc in a locked cupboard, preferably high up. 5. Living Areas Make sure that living areas of the house are safe. Clear away clutter and toys periodically to avoid your child falling over them.
Also look around and check where there might be sharp corners eg a sharp edged table and use protective corner cushions to keep these areas safe.
6. Bedroom Keep your child's room safe - use a bedrail to avoid your child having a nasty fall out of bed and keep the room at a nice comfortable temperature, using a room thermometer. For young babies keep them safe and comfortable in their cot by avoiding putting stuffed toys around it and use a baby monitor to check they are OK throughout the night. Following these steps as well as keeping a watchful eye on your child will help keep them safe from harm.

Importance Of Strengthening A Childs Self-Esteem
For many young children growing up life can be very overwhelming and sometimes depressing without a balanced and healthy sense of self-esteem from an early age.
Self-esteem is invaluable to a childs over all happiness and wellbeing.
It's a need and a must, otherwise a child will feel very insecure within them self. Having low self-esteem is setting the stage for potential emotional problems in later teen and adult life.
Having a positive upbringing and having a good foundation from an early age from both parent/s and other contributing adult family members as well as teachers and family friends can play a huge role in building self-worth.
children should feel good about themselves, feel loved and wanted, accepted and valued by the adults and people who they feel are important to them. The importance of building self-esteem cannot be over stressed.
Confident little children are more likely to succeed in many areas of life as they mature and grow up.
A child with low self-esteem and un-confident will always battle with many difficulties, feelings of inadequacy, slow to achieve and stay focused on a goal or goals in life and feel that they fail in everything they attempt to do and have a "I can't do" mentality leading them potentially to have a very bleak and negative out-look on everything in life.
Thus feeling a failure.
Children with a healthy sense of self-esteem are more likely to feel secure and feel that the important parent/s, adults and people in their life accept and care deeply about them.
They feel wanted and sense that they would be dearly missed if they we're not around and would be missed if they we're separated or away.
Children with low self-esteem, on the other hand, often feel unwanted, unloved, feel they are in the way all the time and hear the all too familiar words, "can't you find something to do," "go out and play," "I can't wait for you to go back to school." Not feeling accepted, unwanted and not cared about can haunt a child with low self-esteem.
During a childs early years, little children's self-esteem is mostly based on perceptions of how the important people in their lives judge them for the good or the bad.
When a child is readily received in a loving manner, given time, and patience, and made to feel accepted and wanted around by the one's they look up to who mean the most to them children learn to establish trust and a sense of being cared for, valued and greatly loved which satisfies their basic need.
Children acquire self-esteem as time goes by as they grow from an early tender age, sometimes they don't always feel confident in every situation. They may feel confident at home but not at school. As children interact with other kids and learn to function in school sometimes they experience one minute being excepted and liked and another time they may experience being rejected and un-liked. In those challenging instances you can help by reassuring them of your love and support.
Good self-esteem can be cultivated by parent/s or other adults who are important to them most.
To esteem a child means to treat them with respect, asking them their opinions and taking their thoughts seriously and giving them meaningful and kind feedback.
A child will most likely have a good sense of self-worth when responded to with keen interest and efforts and with high opinion rather than just commending.
Responding positively by taking their interests seriously like reading with them or doing gardening with them will nurture and boost their self-esteem. Children greatly benefit from being given tasks and activities, responsibilities that make them feel special, needed and wanted that challenge their minds rather than just being left to their own devices to occupy themselves.
You can help children develop healthy self-esteem by helping them, directing and guiding them how to cope with their defeats by showing them how much you still love them as well as success. It's important sometimes to tell them that not everyone is good at everything they try. Teaching children to work past their disappointments can help them not to give up whatever is thrown at them. As a parent or an important adult you can really help to build self-worth in a child's life now and for the future by how well you interact, value and care for them by helping them to learn to value themselves which will build that important self-esteem.

The Benefits Of Plastic Fruit And Vegetables
Go into any toy shop and you'll almost certainly see fake food.
Whether it be plastic vegetables, plastic chickens, plastic platters of dinner or plastic bananas, you'll see it scattered everywhere. Sometimes this comes in net backs, alarmingly similar to those found in supermarkets, and sometimes you can buy it as part of a bigger set - either a shop till and basket, a miniature home cooker complete with plastic saucepans and a couple of spoons, and sometimes as part of a tea party.
Should we be concerned about tempting, or confusing children with plastic food, or does this type of toy serve a greater purpose than simply lowering the cost of our grocery bill? There are two things that you will notice about any of the plastic food you see.
The first so that there are usually clear guidelines on age restrictions, usually suggesting that at least 18 months or even 3 years being the minimum age at which the child should be allowed to play with it, (and even then, of course it should still be supervised by a responsible adult). The second thing to notice is that you will never find small fruits and vegetables, such as peas or beans.
This is for fairly obvious safety reasons - any plastic food must be large enough to prevent accidental swallowing. All plastic food is large and chunky and far too big to fit into a child's mouth, at least, not completely. So what purpose, or purposes does it have, and why is it so popular? It could hardly be argued that it is an educational toy on the grounds that it helps children to recognise and learn the names of various foods, since the similarity between a plastic stick of broccoli and the real thing is about as recognisable as the similarity between a brussel sprout and a banana.
It seems unlikely that children will learn the names of their fruit in any way other than seeing them in the shops as real fruit and vegetables, watching in the kitchen as they're prepared, or in the actual eating of them. The real benefit of course is in the way they are used as props for role play.
Children, particularly when either paired up with another child or as part of a group, will naturally tend towards role play games, and the props used to represent the adult world are essential ingredients to helping all member of the role play experience understand what is happening, and play their part more effectively.
So, if the game is 'shops' this will allow one child to play the role of shopkeeper, whilst the others will be customers; should it be a home based game, then perhaps one of them will be the parent in the kitchen (usually mummy!) whilst the other will be either a child or the other parent. The role play experiences are essential to help a child establish roles, identities, and understand how the world works from various perspectives.
It also helps them to understand rules and social expectations in ways which they could not otherwise experience for themselves. In other words, a plastic cauliflower really can help a child learn about becoming a member of society.

Different Uses of Commercial Lighting
Commercial lightings have definitely come a long way since it was first developed several years ago.
As years passed by, people have witnessed the evolution of a simple lighting device into something that is more beneficial and efficient.
It was first used for the sole purpose of providing brightness in the dark or when nighttime falls. These days, there are plenty of uses for different types of lightings which are made available commercially by different industries or companies. It all started with one single light but right now, almost all major areas in different regions are now being illuminated with commercial lights.
As technology progresses each year, the uses and benefits of lighting installations are also expanding.
Before, people were already satisfied to have light at night in order for them to know there way.
From there, the benefits of having a light increased more and more.
Men and women, young or old, were then able to read books at night without having problems.
Then there were modern street light fixtures to help motorists avoid accidents and to brighten areas prone to crimes. Safety and convenience were among the first and most important benefits provided by lighting systems.
It is easier to do activities at night and people can now be safer when travelling.
Another good use for commercial lighting is for interior and exterior house design.
A good house design would never be complete without having the proper lighting setup. Lighting products which are commercially available comes in different colors, sizes, shapes, and functionalities so they easily fit any type of home design or structure.
Lights are also a major component of almost any part of the house such as the living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, and more.
Outdoors, lighting would also be great to highlight various parts of a house's exterior.
It can also help enhance areas of the house which are plain or ones which do not have that much color or design.
Much like the purpose of street lights, it can also help improve home security.
Apart from streets and homes, lighting is also very important for businesses most especially for clubs and other similar party places. In those types of businesses where you can see modern gadgets used for lighting such as a DJ lighting equipment, light strobes, and neon lights.
A party place would not be fun or enjoyable without them. It is also one of the main reasons why these types of businesses are successful these days.
Both the inside and the outside of party places are adorned with different models of light bulbs, incandescent lights, and LED. It would be hard to imagine living in a time without lighting.
It definitely has provided a lot of benefits for all of us and has always been a part of our daily lives.
From the simple tools that we are using to the modern gadgets that we have, lighting proves to be very valuable.
It would not be surprising to see commercial light products evolve further in the future.

Kids' Scavenger Hunt Ideas
Around my home, we're always looking for new, exciting things to do; things that don't involve renting a movie, playing a video game, or watching cartoons.
Thankfully, there actually still are activities that don't center around the big box in our living rooms.
And for the record, it's not that I don't also enjoy those things, but limitations and boundaries are a good thing when it comes to television.
One thing we like to do is to have scavenger hunts.
I'd say we do this two or three times a week, depending on the season; if it's winter, you won't catch me outside much. That's what our kids' friends are for! Yes, once in a while there's a snowman or fort to be built with them, a day of sledding, etc.
, but summertime is when it really gets fun outside.
Scavenger hunts are not that difficult to set up, really.
Start with something minor like just hiding a couple toys - preferably new ones - and write a couple clues for your child.
Pretend that it wasn't you who did it; that a good pirate came in the middle of the night and created a series of clues for you to follow.
Go on the hunt with him/her and act like you're really into it! I've found that once I start TRYING to enjoy something with my daughter, little by little I start ACTUALLY enjoying it.
Once you get there, more and more ideas for bigger and better scavenger and treasure hunts will pop into your head, and before you know it, you have yourself a little family tradition!

Hats for Kids
As a parent we have a duty to protect our children from the elements from the hot to the cold and everything in between.
Depending on the time of year will determine exactly what kind of protection you should be providing for your children.
One of the things that gets overlooked the most is hats for kids and it amazes me that we forget so often.
With the prevalence these days of melanoma becoming much more widespread we must think about hats for kids much more than we do now as a society.
Kids hats come in all shapes and different sizes and if you remember back to when our kids were little babies almost all of us use to put hats on our little ones. What changes over time however is unknown and we begin to shy away from kids hats and allow their hair to roam free.
However what we should start doing is realizing just how much at risk we put their health at by not covering their heads.
Exposing their heads to the UV rays of the sun really puts them at a risk later on in life that we should have protected them from. Kids Sun Hats Obviously the most common relationship between melanoma and our skin is the sun and therefore at the very minimum kids sun hats should be a top priority.
Anytime you and your children are out in the sun you should be equipping them with kids sun hats to mitigate the impact of the harmful rays.
If fashion is a concern for you, then spend the time looking for high quality stylish kids sun hats because ultimately their health and safety should come first.
Kids Winter Hats While making sure your kids heads are covered during the summer might seem like common sense, people tend to forget that the sun is just as powerful during the winter months too.
That's why we also recommend that you invest in some kids winter hats too. In fact if you live anywhere with large amounts of snow you can actually get more of the suns harmful rays via the snow than during the summer months.
Kids winter hats can be very cute and include beanies, snow hats and wooly hats that cover everything from the top of the head to the ear.
There really is no excuse for not using kids winter hats really.
Hats for kids are readily available here at so make sure that you browse through the site and choose the ones which suit your kids the best!

Awarding Scholastic Excellence
In an age of social networking, interactive video games, 3-D television and million-dollar sporting contracts, awarding scholastic excellence has often taken a backseat.
However, awarding scholastic excellence can provide future benefits to the young minds receiving such recognition. Here are a few tips for awarding excellence in the classroom.
At home, awarding scholastic excellence is an important step in reinforcing positive habits.
Regardless of the reason the award is given, the goal is to help promote a solid base for future learning.
There are plenty of ways to go about this. Whatever your approach, keep in mind that awarding scholastic excellence doesn't have to come only when a student receives a "A" or takes first place in the county spelling bee.
Instead, award students for their efforts throughout the learning process. One of the most effective ways to reinforce positive results is to award students for improvement.
Big or small, offer reward for the hard work put in during development and not simply the results.
It doesn't take much to warrant an scholastic award.
Keep your eyes open for opportunities to acknowledge students.
For those students learning at an accelerated pace, award their scholastic excellence by acknowledging their progress.
Physical awards may not always be necessary; however, it is important that the student is aware of the benefits that are likely to accompany a dedicated work ethic.
For the student athlete, trophies and plaques are available to award excellence in both areas. These awards help celebrate success both on the field and off.
Students able to balance both extracurricular activities and progress in the classroom deserve to be awarded for his or her hard work.
Make an example of these students by awarding them for their academic success in front of the entire team or a full classroom. Keep in mind, awarding students for scholastic excellent will not only benefit the student and their future study habits, but it is also a wonderful opportunity to get more involved in the student's day-to-day educational goals. For large achievements, physical scholastic awards are available, such as trophies, plaques and an assortment of objects that can be engraved and personalized to help commemorate the achievement. These scholastic awards offer the recipient something physical in which to reflect.
As awarding as a pat on the back can be, having something physical to help students remember their accomplishments can go along way. This is particularly true with younger students.
Ask around for fun ideas or check online and discover for yourself some impactful ways to award scholastic excellence.

Benefits of Teaching Preschoolers to Care for Pets
Involvement in Pet Selection
Preschoolers can be included in pet selection, but it should be parents that make the final decision. Parents are able to consider many factors like safety and practicality where preschoolers will only consider how cute the animal is at the time.
Its better that mom and dad handle this one.
Naming Your preschooler's involvement in naming a pet can be fun and refreshing.
If the pet already had a name it is kinder that the new chosen name should be similar to the old one.
A wonderful idea is for parents to pick a couple of names and let the child decide which one he likes best.
Where the Pet Sleeps Pets should sleep in a central location of the home and definitely not be kept in your preschooler's bedroom. The location of your pet's bed is important as the pet could be noisy and disturb your child at night. Your preschooler might also be tempted to play with their new pet when they should be sleeping, or they may overfeed the pet thinking that they are nice.
Cleaning Cleaning the family pet should be a task that are taught to your preschooler at the earliest possible time.
Parental supervision and guidance is vitally important to ensure that the pet is cleaned properly and that your preschooler will be safe at all times. Preschool children can be taught to brush furry pets, with a soft brush, and they can have a lot of fun giving their dog a bath. Feeding Feeding the pet is a task that preschoolers love because it is not a difficult task and they know it makes their pet happy. It is important that parents supervise this activity as children can easily over feed pets.
Over feeding can be harmful to animals, especially fish.
Parental supervision is also important to ensure that preschoolers do not forget to feed their pets. Exercise and Holding Preschoolers love to hold and cuddle their pets, but it is important for parents to teach their child how to do this properly without hurting the pet.
Preschoolers should be taught to support the animal when they hold it and to put it down gently the moment the animal starts to squirm and show signs of displeasure at being held.
It is important that pets get exercise on a daily basis and preschoolers can join in the fun. Parents must always be present to make sure that both the pet and the child is safe at all times. For example when walking a dog it is best that two leashes are used. Your preschooler can hold one leash while the parent holds the other one for extra security.
Pet Death There will eventually come a time when a pet dies. It is parents' natural reaction to replace the pet as soon as possible to try and protect the child.
Instead of doing this, parents should see this as an opportunity to talk to the child about death. The amount of skills and life lessons that a preschooler can learn while learning to take care of a pet is huge.
Teaching your preschooler to love and care for their pet is beneficial in many ways and will add experiences to your child's life that will help him or her to become a well-rounded, gentle and loving adult.

Little Tikes Sandbox
What is one of the most enduring, appealing play environments for kids that's been around as long as anyone can remember? The sandbox. No summer is complete unless there is a certain amount of sand play.
Fortunately the folks over at Little Tikes have made several models to choose from, all with the legendary toughness that Little Tikes products are known for.
The Little Tikes Butterfly Beach Sandbox and Wading pool is a sort of two-for-one deal: you get a sandbox in one "wing" and a wading pool in the other.
It also comes with a handy umbrella to keep those burning rays off your little one's shoulders. Free form imaginative play with sand is one of the classic rites of childhood. And, of course, free form cleaning up of all the sand that gets tracked into the house is a classic rite of parenthood, but that's OK.
The Little Tikes Butterfly Beach Sandbox and Wading Pool retails for around $40.
The Little Tikes Sand & Water Table - Builder's Bay - is loads of fun for kids who like building things.
Of course, the sand and water don't exactly stay all in their correct places, but that's part of what playing with sand is all about.
After all, moist sand packs well for making castles and pyramids. The Little Tikes Sand & Water Table Builder's Bay is a table, so kids stand up and have access to all the space for driving around miniature cars and creating dunes and beaches and who knows what else. While there is a case to be made for sandboxes built into a backyard under a tree fort, there is also one very good reason for parents to consider a self-contained sandbox like the ones from Little Tikes: if you move, all you have to do is dump out the sand and take it with you.

IT Departments Should Learn To Love BYOD
There are many views about the growing trend for using a personal mobile device for work, whether that's an iPhone, the latest Android smartphone or an iPad.
Some of the thought leaders on the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend are in agreement with each other's views whilst others hold completely conflicting opinions. As with any evolving space, change is occurring rapidly and sometimes it is difficult to know who or what to believe.
Is BYOD good for business and likely to increase productivity or will it simply expose organisations to unacceptable risks? Many IT departments are anti-BYOD, in fact some companies have implemented anti-BYOD policies, which prevent users from using their own mobile devices to access corporate information, including emails. It is interesting that younger employees expect to be able to use their smartphones and tablets anywhere and everywhere, including at the office so it may come as a shock to them to encounter corporate restrictions of this kind.
IT departments in major organisations typically have a culture of limitation and control - limit what the user can do/access and they will have more control over a machine and less support issues to deal with.
The consequence of this lock-down approach is that the organisation's data will be secure. Anyone working in healthcare, finance or the legal professions knows the importance of data confidentiality - this is always of paramount importance; far more so than the desire for employees to use their personal devices to check up on their emails. Therefore, one might expect the IT contingent in these types of businesses to be fairly anti-BYOD although many of them are reserving judgement.
What no one has discussed much is exactly what the users who want to bring their own devices will actually do with them once they can (assuming the BYOD rollercoaster will not stop).
Do they seriously think they can view documents and reports easily on a small smartphone screen; or write a document, create a spreadsheet or a PowerPoint presentation? In all of these discussions there has been little mention of the limitations of a small screen.
Certainly some mobile devices will be tablets but the majority of mobile devices currently managed under BYOD policies are still phones.
And whilst corporate PCs may run very slowly (perhaps due to outdated operating systems) there is no guarantee that a smartphone will run any quicker when running a corporate app wirelessly on the corporate network via their personal home Wi-Fi, or, indeed, even from with the workplace building itself. IT departments are bound to be overly anxious about security - that is their concern and their heads are the ones liable to roll if it all goes horribly wrong.
They are also worried about having to field endless support calls for personal mobiles loaded with banned apps.
But, like it or not, BYOD is the responsibility of the IT department so instead of hoping this new, scary monster had never been born they should grasp that responsibility and learn to love it.
If they don't they may find they lose one of the things they most wanted to keep - control.
It's when IT lose control of the BYOD baby that it will become open to abuse and become a potential security hazard. The IT department could also risk being viewed as inhibiting business progress rather than leading the way and embracing change that will bring improved productivity and reduced costs as benefits.
Thankfully not all IT departments are opposed to this new concept of employees bringing their own mobile devices to work. Many will embrace it with a good mobile device management solution to ease the burden and it is those BYOD programs that will be the most successful and the most secure.

Haiti: Slowly Joining the Global Classroom
For Haiti to successfully rebuild after an earthquake, hurricane and cholera outbreak and years of ongoing national turmoil, access to education must be improved and education technology must be implemented.
University of the Peoples, the world's first tuition-free online university which works to advance global education and access to education, is working to help Haitians displaced from their universities by opening a center where students can take advantage of their online course offerings. Although Haiti is one of the most undereducated and underdeveloped nations in the world, some lucky Haitian citizens have had the chance to pursue higher education.
Haitian students who have earned a college degree are essentially guaranteed immediate, often prestigious employment throughout the country.
Due to Haiti's most recent misfortunes, however, many of the university buildings were badly damaged if not completely destroyed leaving the student without a place to continue their degree programs. University of the Peoples decided to partner with the small country and offer misplaced students a way to complete their degree even without the physical space of their university buildings.
By providing online education opportunities to one of the most disadvantaged nations in the world, University of the Peoples is helping to not only showcase the opportunities online education has offered to people globally, but also to help Haiti build for its future.
The ongoing challenge, says University of the Peoples founder Shai Reshef, is using technology to connect even more students to education. Currently, UP serves 250 students in Haiti and 700 other students from more than 100 different countries. It is the hope of the online university to be able to bring education via online learning to thousands more in need or underprivileged people in regions across the world. The lucky Haitian students who have been accepted into the UP program often travel an hour or more (each way) to reach the student computer center.
They log in to their computers and enter into a virtual, global classroom.
Students choose from two degree levels and two degree programs- an associate's or bachelor's degree and a computer science or business program.
Reshef hopes to eventually offer students a much wider variety of degree levels and programs. Organizations like UP help to advance global education opportunities and access to countries, like Haiti, who are historically underprivileged.
Reshef says that even more organizations like UP are needed to be able to democratize education.
By utilizing digital tools and technology to open educational doors for people everywhere, organizations like University of the Peoples are helping students in Haiti and other countries harness and use online technology to earn a degree.
For Haiti to continue to rebuild and develop, Haitians need enhanced educational opportunities. It seems as if UP is helping Haiti head in the right direction.

To Party Or Not?
High school days: the best days of our lives.
It is the exciting and happiest moment of every student's existence.
It is a world where one is no longer treated as a child.
This is also the period of time when we take off our ribbons and clips and have our hair done.
Anybody in high school starts to dress up and put on some colors on their faces as well as nails and try to look good in whatever angle.
It is the juncture of girls turning into ladies and boys become gentlemen. High school too is the point in time when cheerful youngsters begin to do things on their own and learn different aspects in life independently.
It is simply the start of fun and self-determined vitality in this world. Every high school student's life would not be completed without experiencing the wonderful feeling of being in the Junior - Seniors Prom.
By the time teenage students step even on their first year, it would be impossible if not one of them think and is agitated about the high school prom.
Some would even plan out what to wear and how they would look like as early as on their first and second year. A few would not mind of buying the most expensive dress and tuxedos as long as they would stand out and look the most glamorous and elegant person during the big night.
Others would always find cheap fancy ones to wear, considering how they would look like and comfort. There are also wise gals and lads who will end up renting dresses and tuxedos or even make them according to their preferred designs. Most especially to girls who do not want to wear their dresses the next time around, they would always consider renting one hot cheap yet classy dress instead.
Guys usually end up renting their tuxedos but only a few choose to have them made only for themselves.
Acknowledging the current crisis situation that most of us are facing, some students might not be able to witness and join the explicit experience of being in a prom night. This is the sad part.
Others even choose not to join due to some reasons only they could justify.
Attending the prom night is always every high school junior and senior's dream.
Knowing all the excitement, the dressing up, the glimmer of having the most wonderful dress, and going to the party with the prettiest or the best looking guy in campus makes everything more interesting. But above all that, there are still a lot of factors to consider.
So, are you going to party or not?

Luck Is When Preparation Meets Opportunity!
I think I'm a good person, and I think you are a good person, so I think it's only fair that we deserve some good luck, don't you?
I know we all want to be good people and to be lucky, but sadly being a good person usually has very little to do with good luck.
Extraordinary people know something that ordinary people don't.
They understand that luck really comes more from Preparation meeting Opportunity than just being a good person.
You see, in this world, if you hope to become anything special you can't sit back as just a good person and hope that luck finds you. Rather, you need to create your own luck. If you out-work your competition then eventually you'll feel lucky, and then get lucky.
However, for most of us, the big question is: Will you be Prepared enough to walk through that door of Opportunity and fully seize the moment when it finally presents itself? Some of you will! But, unfortunately, some of you won't.
I know, you teens reading this success/leadership article are all saying, "Yeah! I'm going to be lucky enough!" However, to tell you the truth, only a few of you will be lucky enough. Only a few of you will actually do the work that is necessary to thoroughly Prepare yourself beyond just talking about it. And when Opportunity does knock, most of you talkers won't be ready, and most of you talkers but not walkers will end up once again being unlucky.
So as I said earlier, when Opportunity knocks, some of you will be ready and Prepared to become lucky, and some of you won't be ready and Prepared to become lucky.
Some of you will see the way.
And some of you will never see the error of your ways. I would love for all of you teens to prove me wrong.
I personally challenge every one of you to do the work that is necessary to be Prepared when Opportunity knocks so you too can be lucky and can be a winner in the game of life.
Go ahead! Go for it! Now teens, and even tweens, go learn, lead, and lay the way to a better world for all of us.
Change your paradigm of what luck really is. From now on you're no longer ordinary; luckily from now on you're extraordinary! In other words, from now on you are Prepared for an Opportunity.
And once again, thanks in advance for all that you do, and all that you will do.

Collecting Paper Dolls
Snip, snip, snip with the scissors; around the base, along the curves and finally the last snip.
The dolls, clad in colorful swimsuits, stood near by awaiting the final cut of their wardrobe.
The hours invested in their story panned out while little fingers bent tabs to change attire.
Are you old enough to remember the joy of paper dolls? If not - all is not lost, paper dolls are still on the shelves of bookstores and super centers or available via the Internet. Although their numbers are not as great as they were in the pre fashion doll industry era .
.
.. They are still around.
Many people value them beyond the playfulness associated with childhood but as the most desired collectible on the planet. Paper doll collecting needs very little room for storage only rivaled by stamp collecting for minimal space required.
The dolls are an inexpensive pleasure that is not a lost art. Some publishing companies have even undertaken the replication of older dolls from by gone times making it possible to own even some of the most dated dolls affordably. The two-dimensional figures accompanied by the best wardrobe for the time period was a considerable luxury during the 1700's. Many of the outfitted dolls were designed for adult entertainment with stages included. By the mid 1800's paper dolls were manufactured in Europe and the United States but were still considered a luxury until paper became more readily available and affordable.
Magazines would even offer paper dolls within their pages.
This practice appeared as recently as the 1990's with Sue Shanahan creating a new, modern version of the beloved and wildly popular Betsy McCall. The popularity of paper dolls was not lost on the marketing branches of several industries during the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's.
Some of the product leaders of the time that took advantage of this phenomenon were Pillsbury, Baker's (chocolate), Singer (sewing machines), Clark's (threads), Lyon's and McLaughlin (both coffee).
Later magazine advertisements that would use the dolls would include the sales of children's clothing, fabrics, cars, nail polish and soaps. These fabulous pieces of paper were not always colorful nor always of people.
Some dolls required the addition of coloring which kept many children busy designing their own fashion couture.
The dolls included inanimate objects and animals too.
Popular dolls that were available over the past two hundred years included royalty, public leaders, movie stars, fantasy fairy tale style characters, family groups, stuffed animals and even cherubs. During the 1940's and 1950's a new kind of marketing arrived in the comic book industry. Publishers took advantage of the love of the paper dolls and created complimentary dolls for some of the comics.
The appeal went beyond drawing in a new customer base - girls.
The publishers encouraged people to submit original ideas for the clothing / costume designs for the comic characters. The comic books would display the designer's name with each outfit chosen.
This ingenious strategy appears in the books through the 1950's. The public popularity waned during the 1960's with the rise of the three dimensional fashion doll industry but that has not deterred many from creating and collecting paper dolls.
A quick search of an online auction will prove this fact.
Dig a little deeper and do a search at or and you will find many very talented artists still creating beautiful pieces of art.
The search will even provide you with many free resources for starting you paper doll collection.
